No Sweat
No Sweat

While cleaning my hooch this morning I tossed most everything on my bed while wiping down other surfaces of the fine layer of grit that had accumulated on all surfaces while I was gone on R&R. I was almost done when I noticed that a full bottle of purple Gatorade was now empty, having leaked out through a lid that wasn’t entirely screwed on. Now my blanket, sheets, and mattress were soaked through with a drink scientifically engineered to keep my core temperature down and my energy levels up. I may not sleep well tonight.
At any rate, what I thought would be a 10-minute task turned into a 90-minute emergency laundry drill. Meanwhile, the air conditioner went out in my office. This was not shaping up to be my Best Day Off Ever.
Nevertheless, I watched Man On Wire, a very good documentary on the Frenchman and a team of about six who, exactly 25 years ago on August 7, 1974, set up a tight rope and walked back and forth between the World Trade Center towers. The movie included footage of the WTC construction in the late 1960’s, which was a poignant reminder of September 11- the same lattice steel frameworks that you see being hoisted up in grainy color film were the ones we remember from the Ground Zero site.
Apart from writing a short contribution to the PRT weekly report, reviewing a handful of e-mails, and continuing Ike, there wasn’t much more to the day.
